Be brilliant, play smart, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French headed south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
