Be clever, play brilliant, and master craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Modern craps come about from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s soldiers bet on Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi barges and throughout the country. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He created the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he designed the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
