Be clever, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about a century old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard through a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the English, the French headed down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. Many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the modern craps layout. He put in place the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
