Be cunning, play smart, and pickup craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps evolved from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. Most acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he designed the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
