Be brilliant, play smart, and master craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William’s knights gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and found safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A good many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
