Be clever, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the correct way!
Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French headed down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Later, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
