Be smart, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French headed down south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. A few consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He added the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
