Be cunning, play clever, and pickup craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the country. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
