Be smart, play brilliant, and pickup craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps developed from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French headed down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which was derived from the name of the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he designed the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
