Be clever, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle’s name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French relocated down south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. Many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
