Be cunning, play smart, and pickup craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the origin of the game, but Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French relocated south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps setup. He added the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Later, he developed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
