Be clever, play clever, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps come about from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he invented the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
