Be smart, play clever, and master craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s horsemen gambled on Hazard during a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French headed down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the current craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
