Be clever, play clever, and master craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers played Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when expelled by the British, the French moved south and located safety in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the losing toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. A great many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He created the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
