Be brilliant, play cunning, and become versed in craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It’s presumed that Sir William’s soldiers enjoyed Hazard amid a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French moved south and settled in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and across the country. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Later, he developed the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
