Be clever, play brilliant, and pickup craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard during a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French moved down south and found safety in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the non-winning toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and throughout the nation. Many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he designed the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
